Painting Tips

If you’re determined to finish that room in your house, check out these tips to help your paint project as smooth as possible. 

Choose your tools and materials 

You will need different materials depending on the paint you choose and the surface you are working with. But make sure you have the basics such as paint rollers, brushes, a paint tray, sandpaper, painters' tape, rags and drop cloths. 

Prep your surface 

Wash the surface if necessary, to remove dirt. Take the time to smooth out any imperfections including existing paint that may be flaking off, scratches, or any holes in the surface. This will allow for a smooth surface to work with. Cover any furniture in the room and apply painters' tape around edges such as windows and doors. Afterwards, make sure to apply a primer and allow it to dry. 

Applying the paint 

Always stir your paint before using to avoid color or texture issues. Use your paint brush for more accurate application along edges and your roller for larger surface areas. Allow paint to fully dry between each coat. This will also help you to determine if another coat may be needed. 

Clean up 

Clean tools before leaving them to dry. Remove painters' tape and all rags and cloths used. And you’re done!
